The reflection is apparently the same as what we see
Yet the image in the mirror is
Virtual, inverted, alien
Floating vapour
snow/ hail/ graupel/ frost/ ice fog/ rain/ dew/ cloud/ fog
visible but invisible, touchable but untouchable, traceable but untraceable
Exhale a breath of fog
Visualize a reply
Take the spot of opposition
Meditate in a spot of silence
Amidst the rising mist of a shower, a private realm for contemplation takes shape. Through a dialogue between Bruce Lee's 'Be Water My Friends' and quotes from 'The Little Prince', this work explores the intersection of youth and maturity, innocence and experience, with the self as a reference.
Mirror texts written on soap reveal themselves only when mist is present, while framed texts written in inverted pencil split everyday objects to form an elusive image - a secret realm that is always present in the mind, yet difficult to see.
Dialogue:
(1)
"Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless, like water."
"You are beautiful, but you are empty," he went on." One could not die for you."
(2)
"Put water into a cup. Becomes the cup. Put water into a teapot. Becomes the teapot."
"The people have no imagination. They repeat whatever one says to them… On my planet I had a flower; She always was the first to speak…."
(3)
"Water can flow or creep or drip or crash."
"And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."
(4)
"Be water my friend."
"All grown-ups were once a child, though, only a few people remember."
